Any changes to the schedule will be posted on our Facebook and sent out in our weekly email.
What to Expect in Worship
If you are new or visiting Wallingford United Methodist Church, we are delighted to have you with us. You can expect a warm welcome from a very lively, friendly group of people who love to worship God and celebrate community.
There is no dress code, and most people dress fairly casually. Please come wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable and able to participate in worship.
The Sunday morning worship service begins at 10:00AM and lasts roughly an hour (occasionally going as long as an hour and a half). The liturgy is printed in the weekly bulletin, so you will be able to follow along easily with the readings, prayers, songs, and other elements of the service. Large print copies of the bulletin are also available.
Worship at Wallingford is a blend of the traditional and the contemporary. The liturgy includes readings from Scripture, quotes and reflections from poets, artists, and people outside our tradition, corporate and personal prayers, a sermon (one for kids and one for adults), singing and musical performances, and more. Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month. Wallingford strives to use inclusive language and imagery for God.
Music is an important part of our time worshiping together. You can expect to sing hymns (and occasionally other kinds of music) and to hear from our wonderful choir or other musical guests. For many, celebration through song is one of the most important things our church offers.
Throughout the year the Worship Arts Team provides ways for the congregation to interact with liturgy, community, the seasons of the church year, and God through art.
Children are very welcome in our worship services! Kids are invited to stay in worship with everyone until the children’s sermon (which takes place about a third of the way through the service). After that, kids K-5 are invited to go spend time in worship and play with our fun, safe, and well-staffed childcare team.
During the summer, worship at Wallingford is a relaxed and playful affair. Adult Ed and children’s Sunday School take summers off. The choir pauses their rehearsals and sings only occasionally on Sunday mornings (but of course, we still sing every Sunday!). Oftentimes after worship, there are barbecues and other get-togethers for the congregation.
