What to Expect in Worship
If you are new or visiting Wallingford UMC, we are delighted to have you. You can expect a warm welcome from a very lively and friendly group of people whose focus is on worshiping God in community.
Dress is casual; please come wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable. You will find that some of our crowd come wearing jeans and some come in suits.
Worship at Wallingford runs for approximately one hour from 10:00-11:00AM. The liturgy is printed in a bulletin, so you will be able to follow along for yourself. Large print copies of the bulletin are available.
Much of worship at Wallingford UMC is a blend of the traditional and contemporary. The liturgy includes readings from Scripture, corporate and personal prayers, a sermon (one for adults and one for kids), singing, prayers of the people, and more. Wallingford strives to use inclusive language and imagery for God.
Wallingford is a place that celebrates and loves traditional music, and you can expect both to sing and to hear from our wonderful choir throughout our services. For many, celebration through song is one of the most important things our church offers.
Throughout the year the Worship Arts Team also provides ways for the congregation to interact with liturgy, community, and God through art.
Children are welcome in our worship services! There is usually a children’s sermon early in the service, after which younger children are invited to go spend time with our fun, safe, and well-staffed childcare team.
Summer Worship
During the summer, worship at Wallingford is a relaxed and casual affair. Worship stays pretty much the same, with one difference being that the choir does not sing each week. Worship is often followed by barbecues and get-togethers for the congregation.
