Welcome!

We are delighted that you have come to check out our website. We are a socially active, spiritually open, theologically progressive, justice-oriented congregation in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. Everyone is welcome here! Read through the sections under “Who Are We?” to find out more about us!

Join us for in-person worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

Our services are also online, here!  You can watch current and previous services.

We would love to know more about you! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can email Rev. Melissa Ramming at melissa@wallingfordumc.org to request more information.

In order to create a worship experience where we all feel safe and welcomed, we have the following Covid precautions:

  • Optional masking.  We have air filtration devices in the sanctuary and as the weather warms, we will open the windows.

  • Stay home if you’re sick.  If you are unvaccinated and have been exposed to COVID, please stay home until you have two negative home tests two days apart.  If you are ill, even with a negative COVID test, we recommend you stay home and worship with us online at www.youtube.com/c/WallingfordUMCSeattle

  • Limiting physical contact. We acknowledge that there are many levels of comfort with physical contact amongst the people that gather here. So, we are taking several steps to help limit physical contact.

    • Color-coded name tags: The name tags on the welcome table are color-coded to help you quickly communicate your comfort level with physical contact.

    • Passing the Peace: While some may be more comfortable in sharing a handshake or a hug, we encourage all to practice consent in how you encounter another person.  Consider a simple gesture like a hand over the heart or a small bow when you greet one another.

  • Coffee Hour: We invite you to stay after worship and fellowship with one another in the Narthex (entry way).

  • Children’s Church: children ages 4-12 are invited downstairs following the Children’s Message for a short Sunday school experience.

Our hope is for this to be an inclusive, accessible, and hospitable place for all to experience the work of the divine in themselves, in others, and in our world! We hope that is your experience!

Yours in grace, peace, and friendship,

Wallingford United Methodist Church

Asset Mapping

Please take a moment to fill out this short questionnaire. Either print, fill out and return or pick up a paper copy at church. We are working to get to know you better outside the context of the church. What do or did you do for a living? What organizations do you support? Our most valuable asset is the wisdom and experience of our people, but without some basic information it can be hard to know who might be able to help us when situations arise. This isn’t a commitment to do anything, but instead is a willingness to listen when and if a situation arises where your talents might assist with a vital need. (Click Here)

General Conference Updates:

1.  Click to watch a short recap of yesterday's General Conference Session. You can also find and share this video on the Western Jurisdiction's Facebook page.

2.  At the time of this publication, Petition 20582: United Methodist Apology for the Illegal Overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, has been approved by the General Conference. We will have a more comprehensive story on this action in tomorrow’s newsletter.

3.  Church broadens defense of human rights

The United Methodist Church now proclaims its support “for the equal rights, liberties, and protections of all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.” On Saturday, General Conference delegates approved the first batch of Revised Social Principles, including an affirmation of the basic rights of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Read the full story here.

General Conference Update
New Social Principles

On Saturday, April 27th, General Conference delegates passed a batch of Revised Social Principles addressing “Church and Governments” and “Basic Rights and Freedoms” on the consent calendar. The vote count was 671 to 57, passing with 92%.

The legislation replaces the Social Principles paragraphs 164 and 165 of the Book of Discipline (read revised paragraphs here).

The legislative committee Church and Society 3 passed this group of petitions unanimously and sent the legislation on to the full plenary making the consent calendar without any changes to what GBCS submitted.

Consent calendar is a way General Conference delegates can vote on petitions in bulk and must receive overwhelming support in their legislative committee and have no financial or constitutional implications.

Read Saturday’s plenary story by Heather Hahn, UM News here.

More revised Social Principles, including ones dealing with the church’s teachings on creation care, economic justice, human sexuality and marriage, will be coming before General Conference delegates for a vote this week.

Black Lives Matter

As a community of faith, we affirm the inclusiveness of the Gospel and celebrate diversity.  We acknowledge our complicity in systemic racism and commit to ongoing self-reflection, prayer, action, and support in order to change ourselves, our church and our society.  We are forming an Anti-Racism Task Force to assure ongoing commitment and action to this work.  We welcome your support and invite you to join us in this endeavor.
